Self Limiting Cables
Wiith self limiting cables you have less calculation as the cables is cut to length at site.
Self-limiting heating cables are equipped with a temperature dependent resistant element between two parallel copper conductors. When connected, a current goes through the resistant element and it starts heating. As the element is heated, the resistance value rises causing the current to decline and the heating is then reduced.
Opposite low air temperatures means low start-up resistance and thus high in-rush current. This means fuses must be sized accordingly. In very cold regions the in-rush current can be limited by a soft starter.
To limit the power consumption DEVI recommend the use of a thermostat, for cable lengths longer than 3 m.
