For any type of floor covering

DEVI floor heating solutions work efficiently under all kinds of floor coverings imaginable: ceramic tiles, natural stone, tiles (e.g. marble, terrazzo or wood), wooden parquet, laminates or wooden planks, any type of wall to wall carpets, linoleum and any other flooring coverings.

Thanks to DEVI’s efficient thermostats, you can have a pleasant room temperature as well as a nice, warm floor, regardless of floor constructions.

Ceramic tiles, natural stone or terrazzo floors

Ceramic tiles and marble floors, granite and terrazzo are smart, easy to maintain, and almost indestructible. There are therefore many advantages to choosing a stone floor. However, unheated stone floors are a cold comfort to bare feet.

On the other hand, cool stone floors can be teamed brilliantly with electric underfloor heating from DEVI. Our heating cables or mats can be placed directly under the stone floor to help ensure warm feet and a comfortable warmth in the room.

DEVI underfloor heating is suitable for stone floors as they lose heat quickly; however, such floors also heat up quickly when heating cables or mats are placed directly under the floor. For this reason, a stone floor is the ideal partner for DEVI advanced thermostats that control the heat precisely and effectively. This ensures excellent comfort and economy. The comfort temperature of the floor depends on the floor covering. For tiles, stone, and terrazzo, it is 26 – 29°C.

Product choice for ceramic tiles, natural stone or terrazzo floors

When renovating, we recommend using DEVImat™ DTIF or DEVImat™/DEVIflex™ DTIR to ensure a low height when installing floor heating on an existing floor.

For a new build, where the cables or mats are installed in the concrete slab, we recommend using DEVIflex™ DTIP, DEVIflex™ DTIE, DEVImat™ DTIP or DEVImat™ DTIE.

Wooden parquet, laminates, and planks

Wood is a natural material, which contracts or expands depending on the temperature. This creates demands for a floor heating system to distribute the heat in a gentle and controlled way.

Precise heat controlThe DEVIreg™ electronic thermostat with floor sensors is the perfect choice for wooden floors. It ensures that the temperature in the floor construction is always is in accordance with the tolerance level recommended by the manufacturer of the wooden floors.

Under all types of wooden floors
The DEVI floor heating system can be used anywhere in the house, no matter if the floor is constructed with floor boards on joists, wood laminates or parquet on concrete.

Out of consideration for the wood, the installed output must not exceed 100 W/m2 or 80 W/m2, if the cables are laid in the air void between joists. In some countries, regulations prescribe an even lower output. If building heat loss is higher than the maximum, reinsulating should be considered or additional heating sources are required in order to ensure a comfortable temperature in the room.

Under all circumstances, it is important that the floor is well insulated underneath to ensure the best heating comfort and most economical result.

A combination thermostat is equipped with both a built-in room sensor, which registers the temperature of the room, and a floor sensor, which registers and limits the floor temperature to the maximum of a chosen setting when placed under the floor. The maximum floor temperature is provided by the manufacturer of your floor.

For dry installations we recommend either DEVIcell™ or our newly introduced DEVIdry™.

When using DEVIcell™ insulation plates, you should install a heating cable into the plate. We recommend the DEVIflex™ DTIP-10, DTIE-6 or DTIE-10. A wooden floor should not be heated with cables with an output of more than 10W/m.

When using DEVIdry™, you can choose between two outputs, either 55W/m2 or 100W/m2. Both outputs can be used under wooden floors: 55W/m2 is for wooden sub-floors and 100W/m2 is for concrete sub-floors (and never on wooden sub-floors).
When using DEVIdry™, the DEVIdry™Kit (Including controller and circuit device) is obligatory.

A floor sensor with max. limit function must always be installed with wooden floor applications for regulation.

Linoleum
Linoleum is a practical, natural product that is especially suitable for homes. Many people choose a linoleum floor because it is easy to keep clean, allergy friendly, and dampens sound. At the same time, it is suitable for use with underfloor heating.

Linoleum flooring is a natural product, which means it must be handled in precisely the same way as heating under a wood floor. Therefore, the heating cable or mat must be covered with a layer of tile mortar or self-levelling floor screed with a minimum thickness of 6 mm. This provides optimum distribution of heat over the entire floor surface.

Product choice for linoleum floor

A linoleum floor can dry out, if the temperature exceeds 27 °C. Using an advanced thermostat from DEVI, electric underfloor heating for linoleum floors provides a safe and comfortable combination.  A floor sensor with max. limit function must always be installed with linoleum floor applications for regulation.

Wall to wall carpets

Wall-to-wall carpets are warm by nature. However, a carpeted floor can still be advantageously heated using DEVI underfloor heating. However, the heating cables or mats must be covered with a layer of tile mortar or self-levelling floor screed with a minimum thickness of 6 mm. This provides a good, even distribution of heat over the floor’s surface.

Carpets have a slight insulating effect on underfloor heating. This means that an underfloor heating system installed beneath a thick woolen carpet may take slightly longer to react to changes in the room’s temperature.

Product choice for wall to wall carpets

DEVI recommends that carpets only have a maximum insulation value of 1.5 TOG (R-value 0.15 m²K/W)*.

Contact your carpet supplier for information on the best carpet to use with underfloor heating.

When renovating, we recommend using DEVImat™ DTIF or DEVImat™/DEVIflex™ DTIR to ensure a low height when installing floor heating on an existing floor. Alternatively, DEVIdry™ can be installed directly under the carpet as a dry installation. The correct controller for DEVIdry™ is in the DEVIdryTM Kit. The TOG value when using DEVIdry™ should not exceed 1.1 according to the standard for removable floors.

For a new build, where the cables or mats are installed in the concrete slab, we recommend using DEVIflex™ DTIP, DEVIflex™ DTIE, DEVImat™ DTIP or DEVImat™ DTIE.
